Launch of Energy Saving Solutions Services in Hitachi Semiconductor Singapore Saves Cost, Saves Energy, Reduces CO2 emission

Singapore, 16 October 2007 — Hitachi Asia Ltd. (Hitachi Asia) and Hitachi Semiconductor Singapore Pte. Ltd. (HNS) officially launched today its Energy Saving Solutions project for HNS, which will offer substantial cost and energy savings in ways that are environmentally-friendly. The project will achieve 5% total energy reduction, or equivalent to 19.5% chilled water plant system energy reduction, and reduce 5000 tonnes per year of carbon dioxide emissions.

Under the Shared Service contract, also known as Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) by Energy Service Company (ESCO), Hitachi Asia replaced four units of Lead-Lag configured high-efficiency chillers of 1,300 refrigerant tonne each.

HNS enjoys new equipment usage at no investment cost because they use the energy savings to pay the rental fee. In addition to energy saving equipment, design and installation, the rental fee also includes periodical maintenance, monitoring measurement and verification of energy savings level by Hitachi Asia.

ESCO is a business that develops, installs, and finances projects designed to improve the energy efficiency and maintenance costs for facilities over a period.

Said Sotoju Asai, Managing Director of Hitachi Semiconductor Singapore Pte. Ltd., “This Energy Saving Solutions project offers substantial energy savings. Additionally, HNS is strongly committed to continuously contributing to global environmental improvements. We are very proud to be associated with Hitachi Asia’s Energy Saving Solutions.”

Toshio Toda, Managing Director of Hitachi Asia Ltd., commented, “The launch of the Energy Saving Solutions at HNS highlights Hitachi Asia’s strong commitment to develop solutions benefiting the environment while providing cost savings to businesses. Our strong expertise in full-service Energy Saving Solutions offers optimal energy-reduction translating to cost-savings. HNS’s ESPC scheme paves the way for future businesses in Southeast Asia.”

Hitachi, Ltd. (Hitachi) started the Energy Saving Solutions business in April 1999. As a global leader in electronics, Hitachi has been developing electrical and heat technology since 1910. With the wealth of experience and achievements accumulated over the years, Hitachi is well positioned to deliver topnotch services for various businesses. In Japan, Hitachi has accepted over 100 sites from various industries such as hospitals, factories, and laboratories.

With the continuous escalating fuel price and rising global warming concerns, Hitachi and Hitachi Asia plan to expand the Energy Saving Solutions business in other Southeast Asian countries. Hitachi’s strong know-how in Energy Saving Solutions will help potential customers reduce its energy bills, stay competitive while protecting the environment with the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
