In line with Singapore’s 49th national day, Hitachi partnered with the country’s leading business and finance newspaper, The Business Times for an editorial series and a media event themed “Building a Nation: Tomorrow, Challenges and Possibilities for a Liveable Singapore.”
At the media event which was held on 31 July at the InterContinental Singapore, a wide array of speakers from both the public and private sectors were invited to the discussion on the challenges of sustaining Singapore in the future with famous architect and planner – Dr Liu Thai Ker – taking the helm as keynote speaker. Dr Liu is noted for his influence on Singapore’s urban landscape as head of the Housing Development Board (HDB) and Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) in his younger days. In his address to the audience, Dr Liu spoke primarily on catering more land for a bigger population whilst maintaining a sustainable environment in the coming years. The roundtable panel discussion that followed on also exchanged many ideas and possibilities of using technology and innovation in the next decade to keep the nation a world class city.
In addition to this on-ground event, Hitachi was featured in an editorial series over the course of three weeks in both the Business Times and Straits Times under the same theme. Each instalment featured how Singapore has transformed over the years with a focus on infrastructure. Through these editorials, Hitachi was reiterated as one of the pioneers that contributed to the infrastructure and master planning of Singapore’s early nation building years. Hitachi’s growing capabilities and commitment to Singapore, and its expertise in the social innovation business will continue to serve the nation by providing total solutions for a sustainable, urban city in the coming future.
