Hitachi Consulting Selected to Design ‘Smart City’ Services For One Bangkok, Thailand’s Largest Private Sector Property Project
Bangkok, Thailand, Feb. 22, 2018 – Hitachi Consulting Corporation, a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd (TSE: 6501), and a leading provider of consulting-led solutions and services, today announced that it has been retained by Frasers Property and TCC Group, to assist in the design of “smart city” services for One Bangkok, Thailand’s first fully integrated district that is built on people-centric principles and a focus on environmental sustainability and smart city living.
Mixed-use urban projects are a major opportunity for businesses, and one that’s already in the engineering phase is One Bangkok. A massive complex of nine towers in Thailand’s capital, it is expected to offer over 1.8 million square meters of floor space. Despite the project’s enormous scale, the owners are working to integrate smart services in energy, water, telecommunications, predictive maintenance, video analytics, security, traffic, and parking. Everything will run on a single IoT-driven platform and command center—made all the more complex because the project includes office, retail, hospitality, residential, and cultural areas. Embedded sensors and analytics capabilities will enable the property managers to continually adjust and optimize building operations and the ongoing resident experience. Expected to open in 2021 and to serve more than 60,000 people who will live and work there, One Bangkok will be a demonstration site for existing sites as well as greenfield applications. The developers expect to deploy many of these smart services to existing properties throughout their international portfolio.
Hitachi Consulting brings to the project extensive experience in “smart city” strategy and planning, IT and smart infrastructure. For example, Hitachi Consulting will define the high-level design, technical concepts, and technical requirements for a Smart City Sensor Grid and Smart City Platform. These components comprise the backbone that connects, integrates, monitors, and manages all One Bangkok systems and operations management, temperature, photo, noise and air quality sensors and predictive maintenance of building systems. The Platform will have the potential to support a wide variety of services such as highly efficient energy and water to ensure reliable operations as well as a property-wide closed-circuit television system. Hitachi Consulting is looking at leveraging the deep resources of other Hitachi Group Companies on future phases of the project.
“The convergence of cloud-based computing, big data and the Internet of Things (IoT), are enabling social innovations at One Bangkok that will enhance people’s lives and support environmental sustainability,” said Andrew Hamilton, Global Client Partner for Hitachi Consulting and Lead for the Hitachi Social Innovation Business in Asia.
“We are proud to be engaged with a project that is consistent with Hitachi’s commitment to social innovation — making the world a better place through technology — while fulfilling the One Bangkok vision of deploying technology systems that deliver operational and environmental efficiencies and digital connectivity that enhance the overall quality of life for residents, employees and visitors,” he added.
Anthony Arundell, Director of Smart Cities and Sustainability for One Bangkok said, “Smart City services and sustainability are among our top priorities, which is also in line with Thailand 4.0, the government’s industrial policy that aims to transform the Thai economy. We selected Hitachi Consulting based on its expertise in IT, Facility Management Operational Systems, and the Internet of Things. We are working together to create a smart innovative sustainable city development that will be a showcase for the new urban living experience.”
The One Bangkok project will be a featured topic at the second Hitachi Social Innovation Forum 2018 BANGKOK, on February 23, 2018 at The Athenee Hotel, in the capital of Thailand. Hosted by Hitachi, Ltd and Hitachi Asia Ltd., this event supports the Thai Govenrment’s Thailand 4.0 initiative to achieve a smart and sustainable society to benefit Thailand and its citizens and will explore Hitachi’s Social Innovation technologies and solutions in digital transformation, information and communication technology (ICT), as well as the Internet of Things (IoT).
