Powering Good Starts Within

Dear Colleagues,

October is Hitachi’s Corporate Ethics & Compliance month. Within Hitachi’s founding values of Harmony, Sincerity and Pioneering Spirit that were crafted more than a century ago is the word “integrity”. Like our founder, Namihei Odaira who was known to be a man of integrity, we too, must ensure we do the right thing and do it the right way.

As we step into the second half of FY2019, I want to reiterate our focal areas which you should be very familiar by now - Smart Cities, Smart Government and Smart Factories. Let’s consolidate our energy and effort towards achieving our business targets.

On top of the current market trends that are affecting us globally, the orders and sales in Hitachi Asia Ltd. (HAS) have been less than ideal. This, being the first year of the 2021 Mid-term Management Plan (MMP), it is vital for us to gather our strength and have a good start to the 2021 MMP in order to accelerate our momentum.

So how to drive further growth? My answer is, “Growth Mindset”.

Having a growth mindset helps us to evolve, grow and change. We need to embrace challenges and view it as chances to experiment and staying competitive. Below are the three key messages that I would like to share to all staff:

    1) Enhance Co-Creation Mind

    2) Accelerate One Hitachi Activities

    3) Achieving Your Commitment

Essentially, these three key messages are mutually inclusive, which means they are dependent on one another. Co-creation is to collaborate with other business units or Hitachi GoCs, and by working together as One Hitachi, we can achieve our commitments and goals for the MMP and start powering good for the society.

Last month, Hitachi had the privilege of being in the limelight where Chairman Nakakita was featured in The Business Times, Singapore. In his interview, Chairman Nakakita talked about how Hitachi works relentlessly behind the scene to maintain basic infrastructure such as energy and electricity. And how this is in line with our company’s credo of contributing to the society.

As we come to the final quarter of the year 2019 where the year-end festivities are upon us, I want you to take a moment and think of how you can start powering good. Hitachi Plays Santa* returns for the third time running and this is a good start for you to give back in your personal capacity.

At the end of the day, powering good starts from us, from within. Everything we do here in Hitachi points to the one thing that we want society to remember us for – powering good.

Kosuke Horiuchi
Managing Director
Hitachi Asia Ltd.

*Hitachi Plays Santa is an initiative started by HAS. Since 2017, HAS, together with its group of companies in Singapore have been faithfully giving back to the society through donations and other forms of charity.
