Hitachi Asia’s First Brand Event cum Inspiration of the Year Global Award Commendation Ceremony 2018


Hitachi Asia Ltd. (HAS) organised its inaugural Brand Event on 30 November in Singapore. It is the first event that integrated both a brand workshop with team building activities together with the Inspiration of the Year Global Award (IYGA) Commendation Ceremony.

The big-scale event attracted Hitachi employees across all functions in the Southeast Asia region. Welcoming nearly 100 eager participants to the Village Hotel, Changi where the Brand Event was held, it started with a morning of learning about the Hitachi Brand in a fun and refreshing way. It was closely followed by an afternoon of team building activities where participants interacted with fellow colleagues despite the geographical differences and language barrier. Later that evening, participants had the privilege to witness the winning projects at the IYGA 2018 Commendation Ceremony as the programme ended with a dinner reception.


The objective to bring the Hitachi Group of Companies (GOCs) together as One Hitachi and inculcate the Hitachi Brand Values (Harmony, Sincerity, Pioneering Spirit) through light-hearted activities was met. Participants gained deeper understanding of the Hitachi Group Identity. It had also heightened their sense of pride towards the Hitachi Brand while they had fun bonding with fellow colleagues. "I attended the Brand Event as a participant and observer from HR and concluded it was a very novel way of instilling the sense of pride of being a Hitachi staff. I hope to see a future collaboration between HR and CCG (Corporate Communications Group) in reaching out to new employees at the orientation programme, as well as existing employees for a refresher course." – Ms. Emelyn Ang, HR Executive, Hitachi Asia Ltd.


Witnessing fellow colleagues receiving recognition awards at the IYGA and hearing how the winning projects embodied the Hitachi Brand values had greatly inspired the participants to be the next IYGA winners in the coming years. Mr. Sribanrieng, Peerapong, Brand Ambassador from IYGA 2014 and Assistant Factory Manager, Hitachi Metals (Thailand) Ltd. agreed, “After HMT’s first Grand Prix award in IYGA2014, HMT won this year’s Third Prize. As a Brand Ambassador and having attended the Brand Event, I feel that this integrated one-day event has greatly inspired more participants to take part in IYGA2019. At least I know that HMT will continue to work hard in every aspect, whether it is to increase profits or to improve the working condition of employees, and continue to take part in the IYGA in the years to come!”

Almost half the participants were from overseas Hitachi Companies, with the other half spreading across the Hitachi GOCs in Singapore. At the end of the event, 89% of participants felt even stronger for the Hitachi Brand and 100% of participants would recommend the Brand Event to their fellow colleagues.


In all, Hitachi Asia’s first Brand Event concluded with much success. The event refreshed the understandings of the Hitachi Brand, participants also reconnected with their fellow colleagues of other functions and hopefully, their passion was reignited. With the event, HAS hopes all Hitachi employees would embrace the Hitachi’s Founding Spirit, internalise and demonstrate them daily at work and off work.
