Hitachi Showcases Advanced Power Systems Technologies at Vietnam Energy Expo 2012

— Hitachi identified Vietnam as one of its key countries and plans to contribute to the country’s development through its ‘Social Innovation Business’ —

Hanoi, May 16, 2012 – Hitachi Asia Ltd. today announced that it is showcasing cutting-edge power systems technologies at Vietnam Energy Expo 2012, as the Diamond Sponsor of the event. The event is held at the Vietnam Exhibition and Fair Centre (VEFAC), Hanoi, from 16 to 18 May 2012. The 108-square metre Hitachi booth (Hall A3, Booth 77-88) will feature a range of advanced technology and products, and also a 3-D nuclear reactor simulation walkthrough, as one of the booth highlights.

In order to contribute to a more sustainable society, Hitachi is strengthening and accelerating its global development of the “Social Innovation Business‟ which provides social infrastructures such as power systems business, supported by highly efficient and highly reliable information and telecommunications technology. Power systems business is one of the core businesses of the “Social Innovation Business‟. Last year, Hitachi identified Vietnam as one of its focused 11 key regions in the world, and it is now promoting its “Social Innovation Business‟ in Vietnam.

Since Hitachi was established in 1910, the Group has contributed to the power supply of the world through its nuclear and thermal power generation systems, renewable energy and power transmission and distribution businesses. Today, demand for power is expected to increase especially in emerging countries such as Vietnam. Hitachi is actively trying to respond to Vietnam‟s strong demand for morepower in a sustainable way, with its cutting-edge power systems and technologies such as Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR) for nuclear power generation and H-25/15 gas turbine for thermal power generation, which are showcased in the Hitachi booth.

The Vietnamese government is currently planning the construction of the first and second nuclear power plant sites in Ninh Thuan province. At a meeting between the prime ministers of Vietnam and Japan on October 31, 2010, it was announced that Japan had been selected as the cooperation partner to build reactors at the second nuclear power plant site. Based on this decision, Hitachi established the “Vietnam Nuclear Project Division‟ at its headquarters in Tokyo in 2011, to strengthen its activities for acquiring orders and provide support for Vietnam‟s plans. In addition, since 2011, Hitachi has started a human resource training program at the Electric Power University (EPU) in Vietnam. The program focuses on human resource development in the field of nuclear power, energy and the environment. Hitachi is aiming to contribute to Vietnam‟s power development through both its “Social Innovation Business‟ and human resource training activities.

“Hitachi believes its power systems business, as one of the core business of the “Social Innovation Business‟ can make valuable contributions to Vietnam. We are also confident that by collaborating with local business partners, Hitachi can contribute to the country and people of Vietnam in other various fields, including IT systems, railway systems, and urban development water treatment, in a sustainable way,” said Mr. Nobuyuki Nakamura, Chief Representative for Vietnam and General Manager of Hitachi Asia Ltd. (Vietnam offices).
